Five Creative Uses for a Sandwich Press

When it comes to preparing a filling and healthy meal, you need to put in a lot of effort. But with the right appliances to give you a helping hand, you can get the task done quickly and with ease. A sandwich toaster is one such appliance that helps you prepare a wholesome meal or snack to satisfy your hunger pangs. If you don’t have this appliance yet, it is time to add one to your existing range of cooking appliances. 

As the name suggests, the main purpose for which we use a sandwich maker or toaster is to prepare sandwiches. However, there is a lot more that this amazing multi-purpose appliance can help you with. Continue reading to know a few creative ways in which you can use your sandwich press. 

Hashbrown

Making shredded potato hashbrowns in a sandwich maker is a breeze. You just have to thoroughly mix shredded potatoes, salt, paprika, pepper and olive oil in a mixing bowl. Spoon this mixture on to your preheated sandwich press and close it. Let it cook till done as per your desired level of crispiness. Once done, transfer it to a plate and serve hot. 

Pancakes

Pancakes are a tasty treat that you can prepare with ease. Whisk together a cup of all-purpose flour with an egg, two tablespoons of sugar, half a teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt, two tablespoons of unsalted butter and a cup of milk. Spoon a ladle of this batter onto your preheated sandwich toaster and close it. Cook until done. Serve it hot by topping with maple syrup, chocolate syrup, jam or honey. 

To make a healthier version of these pancakes, you can replace all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour and sugar with jaggery. You can also consider adding mashed ripe bananas to the mixture. 

Omelettes

If your sandwich maker has the edges such that bread slices fit in perfectly, then it is ideal for making omelettes. Beat two eggs together with your choice of seasonings (salt, pepper, chilli flakes, oregano) and chopped vegetables (onion, tomato, capsicum, grated carrot, coriander leaves). Preheat your sandwich maker and spoon the egg mixture into the slots. Close the lid and cook them until done. Yummy omelettes are ready to relish and make a healthy breakfast. 

Grilled Foods

If you have a sandwich grill press, you can make a huge variety of grilled delicacies – grilled paneer, vegetables, chicken, fish and more. Make a paste using a tablespoon of vegetable oil, two teaspoons of ginger garlic paste, half a teaspoon each of lemon juice, turmeric powder and pepper powder, one teaspoon of chilli powder and chat masala, required amount of salt. 

Rub this mixture on to the food that you want to grill (paneer, vegetable, chicken or fish). Preheat your sandwich press and place the food to be grilled. Cook till they turn golden brown. Serve the grilled delicacy with green chutney. 

Quesadillas

Mix together grated cheese, sliced black olives, chopped tomatoes, jalapeno pepper & onions. Preheat your sandwich maker. Place two flour tortillas on the cooking plate and fill in two tablespoons of the mixture into each tortilla. Place two more tortillas on the top. Lock the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes. Serve these quesadillas with salsa, guacamole or sour cream. 
With these many recipes, there is a lot that you can actually cook in your sandwich press. You can also get more creative and try other delicacies like waffles, pizza pockets, brownies, burger patties and pillow cakes in the same appliance. Just get more creative and experiment with your cooking skills using a sandwich press, bread toaster, or oven.
